Disability Survey -

ARI does carry out assessment studies. In 2004 a major survey on disability was carried out in four Southern Africa Regional countries; Zambia, Malawi, Mozambique and Zimbabwe. The Regional Disability Survey was completed in April, 2006. Details are found elsewhere on the Website or from ARI on request.

World Disability Day -

ARI will lead in line with the Institute’s Mandate in carrying out commemorations of this important day World Disability Day, every 3rd December, of each year.

Education Resources

Staffing levels at ARI are low. Programmes are initiated by ARI but implemented with the assistance of outside or hired experts. This is working successfully.

ARI has developed a database of experts. The Institute has partnership with various other Institutions involved in similar work.

Such Institutions include United Nations Agencies such FAO, UNESCO, UNICEF etc. and Multilateral Financial Institutions such as the African Development Bank and various Non Governmental Organisations (NGOs).

In line with the Institute’s Mandate, ARI runs a comprehensive data base of experts in the various fields. These include the

Field of disability
Research
Management training
Policy formulation
Advocacy
Income generation activities and empowerment.

ARI has carried out workshops to train people with disabilities (PWDs) to produce products such as products such as prosthetics and orthotics to help increase availability of these aids which are now very expensive. The Institute has initiated income generating activities for various communities.
