Mission Statement of the Institute
ARI is dedicated to the equalization of opportunities for persons with disabilities in Africa. ARI will promote and support the rights of persons with disability. ARI fully participates and collaborates with Disabled People’s Organisations (DPOs) to try and ensure the achievement of an equitable and equal opportunity society for all people in Africa.
Vision of the ARI
The vision of the Institute is to see Persons with Disabilities on the African Continent begin to participate and contribute fully in the development efforts of their respective countries.
To achieve this goal ARI will work with and through African Governments ARI Member States and Disabled People’s Organisations (DPOs).
ARI believes that persons with disabilities are not accorded the same fundamental rights as other persons in determining their own future and influencing decisions that affect their lives. In most countries PWDs rights are not protected by law.
History/Background
The idea of the African Rehabilitation Institute (ARI) was conceived and nourished during the Africa Regional Conference on the International Year of the Disabled Persons, in 1980. This Conference was organized jointly by the Economic for Africa (ECA), the International Labour Organisation (ILO) and the then Orrganisation of African Unity (OAU). During this Conference, a resolution which called for the development of Regional Programmmes for Africa, concerning the socio-economic integration of people with disabilities was adopted.
The Institute is now fully established in three of the five Regions of the African Continent, Southern Africa, West Africa and Central Africa.
When the Institute is fully fledged, it will operate in all of the five Regions of Africa, which are the Northern Region, The Southern Region, the Eastern Region, the Western Region and the Central Africa.

Random Quotes
Anybody who wants the presidency so much that he'll spend two years organizing and campaigning for it is not to be trusted with the office. A vacuum is a hell of a lot better than some of the stuff that nature replaces it with. This is not a novel to be tossed aside lightly. It should be thrown with great force.
