World Disability Day -

ARI will lead in line with the Institute’s Mandate in carrying out commemorations of this important day World Disability Day, every 3rd December, of each year.

Disability Survey -

ARI does carry out assessment studies. In 2004 a major survey on disability was carried out in four Southern Africa Regional countries; Zambia, Malawi, Mozambique and Zimbabwe. The Regional Disability Survey was completed in April, 2006. Details are found elsewhere on the Website or from ARI on request.

ARI CALENDAR 2006/2007

Activities to be carried out by ARI in the current fiscal year
include:-

1. Launch of the ARI Website, October 16, 2006 at ARI Headquarters, Batanai Gardens, Jason Moyo Avenue, Harare Zimbabwe.

2. Five year Development Plan Workshops. The first of these Workshops will be held at ARI Headquarters from 16 – 20 October, 2006. ARI, local DPO representations, relevant Government Officials and the Government Minister responsible will participate.

This is a pilot programme. If successful the programme will be duplicated in other ARI member states.

3a. The International day of the Disabled Persons; 3 December, 2006

3b. ARI intends to lead all ARI Member States in carrying out commemorations marking World Disability Day, 3rd December, 2006.

3c. Many PWDs have complained to ARI that while most Governments hold marches and other activities to mark many International Days, nothing was being done by ARI Member States to commemorate the World Disability Day held every 3rd of December,

3d. From 2006, this will change. ARI will lead in line with the Institute’s Mandate in carrying out commemorations of this
important day World Disability Day, every 3rd December, of each year.

3e.    What is happening on the day :

        Disabled persons
        Diplomats
        UN Specialised Agencies
        DPOs e.t.c

4. ARI 6th –TAC meeting 26 & 27 February 2007 in Lesotho

5. ARI 18th Governing Board Meeting from 1 – 3 March 2007 in Lesotho.
